  16. Use of this program means compliance with this Agreement.
  17.  
  18. VALIDATE is a file-authentication program that you can use to check
  19. program files for signs of tampering.  VALIDATE uses two methods of
  20. generating Cyclic Redundancy Checks (CRC's), and then displays the
  21. information so you can compare these statistics against the "known
  22. value" for the program files. The known value you use for validation
  23. is usually provided by the author of the program, or you may receive
  24. it from a trusted information database.  The dual CRC checking
  25. provides a high degree of security.

  27. To confirm that a program file has not been tampered with, run the
  28. VALIDATE program and then record the validation data produced. 
  29. Compare this data against the file statistisc the program author has
  30. specified.  If the information matches, most likely the program
  31. has not been modified by anyone other than the author.

  33. To run VALIDATE, enter the following command:
  34.  
  35.      VALIDATE <path spec>
  36.  
  37. where <pathspec> is the name of a directory and file. (The wildcard
  38. characters, "*" and "?", may be used when specifying <pathspec>.)

  40. The VALIDATE program displays the following information:
  41.  
  42.      <name of directory>
  43.  
  44.      name of file (starting at row 1)
  45.                 
  46.      extension of file (starting at row 10)
  47.                 
  48.      size of file (starting at row 15)
  49.                 
  50.      date of file (starting at row 25)
  51.                 
  52.      time of file (starting at row 35)
  53.                  
  54.      check method 1 (starting at row 44)
  55.                 
  56.      check method 2 (starting at row 51)
